Apply to the Hackathon!

We are delighted to invite you to the 6th Annual MIT Policy Hackathon! This year's hackathon will be fully virtual, from November 17th to 19th, 2023.

About the Hackathon

MIT Policy Hackathon is a relatively new hackathon convened by MIT’s Institute for Data, Systems, and Society and MIT’s Technology and Policy Program that aims to address relevant societal challenges via data and policy analysis. This hackathon allows participants to work in teams to develop creative policy solutions to problems posed by governmental and industry partners. Historically, hackathon participants have come from a wide range of backgrounds, from public policy to data science to engineering, and challenges have covered a diverse array of topics.

Challenges

Each year, we give participants interdisciplinary challenges on issues like climate change, energy, AI and the future of work, health, and cybersecurity. These challenges are based around real data from our partners in government, academia, and industry! Teams are allocated to work in different challenges according to their preference, but only one team win is selected as a winner for each challenge category.

You can check out our “Prior Hackathons” tab for more information on the proceedings and sponsors of previous years’ challenges.

How to Hack

Interested in the future of healthcare in light of COVID-19? Internet policy? Environmental justice? Anyone, whether you are an MIT affiliate or not, can participate as a hacker.

Teams will produce data-driven policy solutions to their challenge statements in the form of a 3-minute pitch and a 3 to 5 page policy paper. Please check this space for updates on future events.
